Deputy Manager

Location: Topsham, Exeter

Hours: 37+ per week

Salary: £13 per hour

Little Ducklings Pre school Topsham are looking for a qualified Pre school Deputy Manager.

We are a well-established childcare provider within Exeter with a wonderful reputation. We pride ourselves on recruiting practitioners and Managers who are professional and passionate about children's development.

Our team are looking for patient, compassionate Deputy Manager to join us and help our children and staff thrive in our settings.

Full time, 37 hours per week, Must be available for shifts, 7.30am starts on occasion and 6.30pm finishes.

All opportunities are 51 weeks per year.

Primary Purpose

Support the manager in comprehensive staff and operational management of an early years setting, focusing on team leadership, staff development, and ensuring high-quality childcare services.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Management

  • Manage daily personnel administration

  • Handle staff recruitment, induction, and suitability checks

  • Conduct regular staff supervisions and appraisals

  • Lead team meetings and planning sessions

Operational Support

  • Support staff activity planning

  • Ensure adequate preparation for children's activities

  • Facilitate clear communication about setting operations

  • Manage resource allocation

  • Supervise students, trainees, volunteers

Communication

  • Liaise with parents/carers

  • Address health, safety, and safeguarding concerns

Physical Requirements

  • Physically demanding role involving:

  • Bending, kneeling, crouching

  • Occasional child lifting/holding

  • Nappy changing

  • Equipment setup and storage

Working Conditions

  • Indoor and outdoor activities

  • Minimal risk of illness or injury

  • Specific work hours to be discussed during interview

Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced in staff line management

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Commitment to child welfare and professional development

  • Completion of a full and relevant early years and childcare qualification at Level 2 (eg. Level 2 Diploma for the Children & Young People’s Workforce, Level 3 NVQ in CCLD

  • A positive approach to gaining further qualifications

  • Some understanding of the importance of Health & Safety and Food Hygiene in the workplace

Pay: £13.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 41 per week

  • GCSE or equivalent (preferred)

  • Childcare Level 3 Qualification
